India’s New CCTV Rules: What It Means for Buyers

India is tightening its security framework by enforcing mandatory certification for CCTV cameras from April 1, 2026. Under the new rules, all internet-connected surveillance devices must pass STQC approval before being sold.

This change is expected to impact Chinese brands heavily, as certification is reportedly being denied to devices using Chinese-origin components. Without approval, these products cannot be legally sold in India.

The move is part of a broader effort to improve cybersecurity and reduce dependency on foreign technology. At the same time, it is opening doors for Indian manufacturers to expand and dominate the market.

For consumers, this means focusing more on certified and secure products rather than just price.
