Nothing Phone (4a) Pro First Impressions: Bold Design, Aluminium Body & Periscope Camera

Nothing Phone (4a) Pro First Impressions

Nothing has officially unveiled the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, bringing a noticeable shift in design compared to previous models. The smartphone was introduced alongside the standard Phone (4a) at a launch event in London. While the brand is known for its transparent design language, the new model introduces a fresh approach with a premium aluminium body.

After spending some hands-on time with the device at the launch event, here are my first impressions of the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, including its design, features, and specifications.

A Major Design Change

One of the biggest changes in the Nothing Phone 4a Pro is its aluminium unibody design. Unlike earlier Nothing smartphones that featured a transparent back panel, the new device replaces that look with a cleaner and more minimal aluminium chassis.

However, Nothing hasn’t completely abandoned its signature style. The transparent element now appears only on the raised camera plateau, where the internal design details are still visible.

The phone feels slightly better in hand compared to the standard Phone (4a), which has a slippery glass back. The aluminium finish gives it a more solid and premium feel.

Another small but interesting design detail is a tiny dimple in the bottom-left corner, which is designed to help users pull the phone out of tight pockets more easily.

New Pink Colour Option

Nothing has also introduced a Pink colour option for the Phone (4a) series. However, the pink shade on the Phone (4a) Pro looks more subtle and muted compared to the standard model.

Under dim lighting, the colour almost looks neutral rather than bright pink. Apart from this, the smartphone is also available in Silver and Black.

Circular Glyph Matrix Display

The camera module on the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro immediately grabs attention. It features a circular Glyph Matrix display, inspired by the design of the flagship Phone (3).

This display supports the familiar Glyph Interface features, allowing it to show notifications, alerts, and visual patterns. Interestingly, it can also be used as a preview display when taking photos with the rear camera.

Triple Camera Setup

The smartphone comes with a triple rear camera system:

  • 50MP primary camera

  • 8MP ultra-wide lens

  • 50MP periscope telephoto camera

The periscope lens is particularly exciting as it enables better zoom photography compared to standard telephoto cameras.

For selfies and video calls, the phone features a 32MP front camera.

Display and Performance

The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro comes with a 6.83-inch 1.5K Flexible AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. This should provide smooth scrolling and a premium viewing experience.

Powering the device is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, which is expected to deliver improved performance and efficiency compared to its predecessor.

Battery and Software

The smartphone is equipped with a 5400mAh battery that supports 50W fast charging.

On the software side, it runs Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16 right out of the box.

Nothing has also promised:

  • 3 years of major Android updates

  • 6 years of security updates

This makes the phone a strong option for users who want long-term software support.

Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Price in India

The smartphone comes in three variants:

  • 8GB RAM + 128GB storage – ₹39,999

  • 8GB RAM + 256GB storage – ₹42,999

  • 12GB RAM + 256GB storage – ₹45,999

The price is slightly higher than the previous generation, which the company attributes to rising component costs and increasing demand in the AI technology market.
